This is my poem for Project Alleluia. I titled my poem "The Day of the Shadows," which was a period of time in my life, when one of my closest friends fell into depression. The poem starts by showing the reader how he felt and how my life was effected by this. Then the poem starts to show how love and friendship can break even the strongest bindings of loss and agony. Finally, the poem closes by letting the reader experience the epiphany that occurred.
The Day of the Shadows
By Tucker
The cloud of sorrow and despair approached,
Like a cloud of dust deceiving and blinding,
The shadows blocked clear sight of the true meaning of life,
All that was to be seen was worthlessness and worry of not making a difference,
The despondent thoughts replaced the happy, cheerful boy who he once was,
But not all was lost,
Love and friendship unlike all others are strong and can clear away the fog,
The shackles of despair and neglect were unbound,
And the courageous boy who once was returned,
It was an epiphany,
For the shadows had been dispersed
